Re: The Voice Australia (Season 7)

Only 885,000 metro viewers saw the first live final of 2018. The episode went way too long (finishing at 9.43pm).
Team Delta was safe after voting on the night. Luke Antony (Team George) and Brock Ashby (Team Kelly) got the least votes and performed again in a sing-off. Luke was eliminated after getting the least "instant save" votes.
I honestly do not know why they keep scheduling uber-long episodes. The ratings prove that viewers drop off after a certain length of time. The coaches and contestants are great, but they don't have the entertainment value that the US version now has (Kelly Clarkson coming on has just revitalised the show). They'd be better to have more one hour episodes over multiple nights, even if it means the series runs longer.

Team Delta was eliminated at the semi final, and the final four were Aydan, Bella, Sam and Sheldon. Aydan and Sheldon were eliminated close to the end of Sunday's grand final, before Sam was declared the winner. It also meant Kelly Rowland became the winning coach for the first time on The Voice Australia.
Unlike past years, Sam was not able to perform his debut single after the winner announcement. Instead fans were asked to watch the video performance of his song Trust Myself on The Voice website or YouTube (the video was recorded before an empty stage, so it was like a dress rehearsal).
987,000 viewers in five capital cities watched last night's grand final, while 968,000 saw the winner announcement. While it was a record low for a grand final, Sonia said the one million votes were a series record.

And still no coaches' performance. I wonder if they were trying to make it less about the coaches and more about the artists.

I doubt it, they still spent as much screen time as ever on the coaches.

More likely they cut the budget for the coaches performances (I imagine the coaches fees went up for each additional performance).
