Seven took advantage of Married at First Sight’s absence on Wednesday and secured the week in network shares through MKR, The Front Bar, and the AFL.
Seven can boast ranking #1 network, #1 primary channel, #1 multichannel, #1 sport, #1 news and #1 breakfast, however Nine still won the week in primary shares and the 25-54 and 16-39 demographics.
Seven was victorious in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Nine held strong Sydney and Brisbane.
Nine claimed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday before Seven won the next four nights.

Married at First Sight posted its biggest audience of the series with one more episode to go in this season, helping Nine to its biggest primary share this year and its biggest overnight network share since NRL Grand Final night last October. MAFS also achieved a new record national audience (metro and regional) of 2.448 million with a peak audience of 2.9 million. It helped 60 Minutes to its own best audience in over three years.
Ten saw its lowest daily share since January 2014, with 5.6% for the channel and 8.9% at a network level. Sunday Night Takeaway crashed to its lowest ever audience ahead of next week’s season finale. In fact most of Ten’s primetime programs were outrated by children’s show Bluey.

*Ten advises that the DWTS elimination “finished earlier than the estimated coding” and was amended to 437,000. Also, due to the withdrawal of Jimmy Rees from competition for family reasons (one of his new-born sons is sick), no couple was eliminated last night.

Married at First Sight’s sixth season finished last night with a massive record metro audience just short of 2 million, capping off the highest rating season in the show’s history, in terms of TV viewership, timeshifting and online catch-up, setting numerous records over its run. The average audience for the finale was up on last year’s 1.761 million. With regionals added, the audience jumped to 2.611 million.
According to Nine, last night’s MAFS finale also had a Live VPM of 70,000 on 9Now (a record in the Australian BVOD space for entertainment programming). Nine said MAFS had consistently taken out the top spots across all VPM reports. 12 episodes have a VPM in excess of 400,000 and the first dinner party has a VPM of 481,000.
Companion show Talking Married, which aired on 9Life after MAFS finale, was the most-watched program on a multichannel this year (315,000) but it is expected to be exceeded in two weeks time when 7mate shows the Anzac Day eve AFL match.
Bad Mothers got a small boost for the finale, but I don’t think the drama will be renewed. Despite Nine dominating the night with A Current Affair (which posted its best numbers since July 2017) and finales of MAFS and Bad Mothers, Nine’s network share was actually lower than Sunday’s 45.5%.
My Kitchen Rules and DWTS both dropped their audiences from last Monday. The Australian Story episode on The Seekers came second in the 7.30pm timeslot behind MAFS.

The second season of Bachelor in Paradise got off to an average start, despite topping the major demographics. Last night’s launch audience was well down from last year’s premiere (752,000).
Nine crashed down to earth after Monday’s record-breaking audience for Married at First Sight finale. Without MAFS and Travel Guides, Nine only managed a 19.3% share.
Seven won Tuesday for the first time in two months thanks to the news and My Kitchen Rules. Seven News won Melbourne for second Tuesday in a row, while Nine News won Sydney and Brisbane even without MAFS as lead-out.

Ten’s much-promoted reunion between 2016’s Bachelor Richie Strahan and his ex-girlfriend Alex Nation on last night’s Bachelor in Paradise drew 539,000 metro viewers, slightly down from Tuesday’s season premiere. BIP again topped the 16-39 and 18-49 demographics ahead of MKR, while Seven’s cooking competition show led the 25-54 demo.
Without MAFS, Nine posted its lowest Wednesday survey share and its third-lowest survey share from any night.

10 had its best Thursday share of this survey despite Bachelor in Paradise dropping below the 500,000 mark. BIP and Gogglebox dominated in the major demos.
Seven won the night thanks to the AFL, but its share was down from the past three weeks, not helped by low ratings for season premiere of Border Security: America’s Front Line in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
Seven News has a good chance of winning its first week in Melbourne this survey, after winning three nights in a row and a narrow loss on Monday. It will come down to tonight.
On the breakfast front, ABC’s News Breakfast beat Nine’s Today for the first time. News Breakfast’s combined metro audience of 181,000 was just ahead of Today’s 178,000.

Another close result between Seven News and Nine News in Melbourne, but it was enough for Seven News to win its first week in the city for 2019.
Otherwise Seven continued its winning way in Melbourne thanks to the AFL.

Seven had an easy win last night on the back of AFL (the 49th Western Derby was the most-watched program in Perth). Winx’s final race (her 33rd consecutive win) attracted a big audience for Seven in the afternoon, it was Seven’s biggest daytime audience since Australia faced India in the fourth test at the SCG in January this year.

Nine basically won the week thanks to the final two episodes of Married at First Sight’s sixth season. Even though Seven won Tuesday-Saturday, it was not able to catch up on Nine's huge lead.
Nine won 25-54 and 16-39 demographics.
Seven claimed victory in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won Sydney and Brisbane.
