Seven began the final week of official ratings on a good note, winning the night thanks to Sunday Night and The X Factor grand final, although the latter's audience was well down on last year's 1 million. It was also outrated by 60 Minutes in both total people and major demographics.

*The Long Kiss Goodnight shown in Perth

The X Factor posted the lowest audience for the grand final decider. Only 751,000 metro viewers saw NSW teen Isaiah Firebrace taking the title on his 17th birthday, a huge drop from The X Factor 2015 finale which averaged 1.045 million and 1.204 million for the Winner Announced segment. Last night's finale was beaten by RBT on Nine, 7.30 and Australian Story on ABC as well as the season finale of HYBPA on Ten.
Channel Seven said in a statement this morning it would not make a decision about the future of The X Factor until early next year. It said it would wait to see all the catch-up ratings and mobile device viewing data before making a firm decision on the show's future.
Still, the X Factor finale and the news hour helped Seven winning the night.
Hyde & Seek finished its season on a low, with its future in doubt.

Seven won the night thanks to the news and the First Dates double bill, including the local debut of the original UK version (starting from season 3). Both ranked first and second in the demos.
First Dates beat new episode of TBBT and the premiere of US comedy Kevin Can Wait.

The ARIA Awards lifted Ten to second in primary channels last night. According to TV Tonight, the event which saw Flume pick up 5 awards on the night (8 in total) and Crowded House inducted into the Hall of Fame was the best audience since 2010.
Seven won the night with the news hour and the second season finale of First Dates, however its special on the top 10 news events of the past 60 years faltered.

The Adelaide cricket test saved the day and night for Nine as Australia performed much better in the field, however the figures were well down on the opening day of last year's first ever day/night test, which fell on a Friday (November 27):
session 1: 503,000
session 2: 769,000
session 3: 1,049,000
Even with a cricket lead-in, Nine News lost to Seven News in Sydney and Melbourne. The night session also lost to Seven News in Perth.

Australia batted all day in the second day of the day/night test and it helped lifting ratings of Nine's coverage. Nine won the night however thanks to a massive share from 9GO!.
The season finale of BH&G was the only program that could compete against the cricket.

The day/night cricket test helped Nine winning the final night of official ratings for 2016 by nearly 10 points, although it's interesting that more people watched the second session than the third session.

Nine came home with a wet sail, claiming the last three nights on the back of the day/night cricket test and grabbing the win in primary shares, however Seven still won the final week of official ratings in network shares, 30.1% to Nine's 29.7%.

A big audience saw Australia beating South Africa in the day/night test in Adelaide, however the match's early finish hurt Nine's primetime ratings, as Seven claimed the first night of summer non-ratings with Sunday Night, and the premieres of Border Security's US version and the movie Blended.
Crowded House's Sydney concert did quite well for the ABC given it ran for 2.5 hours.
