Cricket rated very well for Nine and Ten yesterday, with figures for test cricket and BBL both well up from last year, even though rain washed out the third session of test cricket. Nine won the night thanks to the news hour and RBT.

Big audience for the final session of the last day of the Boxing Day test which saw Australia beat Pakistan by an innings to win the match. People in Melbourne preferred to watch it on TV instead of going to the MCG even though it was free entry for the final session. Nine News got a huge boost in Sydney and Melbourne.
BBL rated well for Ten but Seven won the night thanks to BH&G and the movie Deja Vu.

ABC claimed the final night of 2016 but the TV audience for its NYE coverage was down on 2015, partly because of live streaming on social media and also bad comments on the 2015 telecast.
The local audience for the Melbourne NYE fireworks were up on last year.
